That always seem to forget that WEC and F1 have held their races in rain delay(and even cancelled in the case of the 2013 Fuji 6 Hour!) when the conditions get kinda bad crack me up.
Plus those same “fans” that don’t understand that you can’t build a rain tire that will work on any car on a banked oval are kinda hilarious.

Yeah they’re all elitest. I mean why can’t people just appreciate all forms of motorsport? I mean I find most F1 races utterly boring but I appreciate it as the forfront of open wheel racing

Back when the USGP was held at Indy, would they have raced in the rain? I hadn't thought about the banked turn issue. Ignoring, of course, the whole Goodyear/Bridgestone debacle.

Malaysia 2009, Adelaide 1988 are just two examples of F1 races that were haulted due to rain. That’s not including the 1976 and 2007 Japanese GPs where the conditions were so terrible drivers didn’t feel they should be racing.
Really, if those people ever were behind-the-scenes in any regard and saw how things really work, I imagine their attitude would be a bit different.

I believe that the issue with an oval tire is heat build up that does not allow the tread to remain tread for very long because they are always turning the same direction for most of the lap.
Since the F1 cars used 1 banked corner, I believe that they would have run in the rain. I mean, IndyCar did last year for the Indy GP and it didn’t go all that well for RHR (iirc)

Yeah, the Indianapolis GP course for F1 used only one banked corner, so there wasn’t a constant load on the tires, plus it was in an acceleration zone as well, iirc.

That’s correct and what I said above. It wasn’t really an acceleration zone for the F1 cars as they were in about 5th or 6th gear at that point. They had high loads through there. Hence the Michelin debacle at the last USGP held at Indy.
